go bush

a negative first

My days are numbered in wyoming, 5 1/2 or so. On my drive up tonight from Salt Lake I experienced a "first." My thermometer in the sebring hit a negative temperature. It was a thrill. It reminds me of a bumper sticker on a car I saw in rock springs: "Wyoming sucks. Now go home and tell your friends."

changing diapers

I saw this ad on TV. Another reminder of why I haven't changed a baby's diaper yet. For those that think that's awful, I promise that I will change a diaper once it's my own kid. I promise.

byu today

a good article about BYU football

now I know the alpine loop

I've only heard of the alpine loop before I biked it this last weekend (47 miles, 4,000 feet climbed). I thought I knew what I was getting into but I really didn't. In life, sometimes it's better not to know what you're getting into... It was one heck of a journey. I was pushed to the limit... and I mean the limit. It was beautiful, painful, and rewarding.

In a way, I thought it was cool that pirates are still out there when I heard about this on the radio. I googled to find out what a 2008 pirate looks like now days compared to a classic pirate. Times are changing...

seattle roadtrip

drove to seattle from SLC.

Saw where Evil Knievel attempted to jump the snake river.

Saw a Jackson Pollock.

Experienced Safco Field as the Mariners played the Yankees. (Almost witnessed a no-hitter.)

Cheered on the Cougars to a close victory.

This picture captures the silent Huskies after the blocked extra point. (If you look closely, you can see a lot of hands on heads and the cheerleaders asking each other, "what happened?")

Other activities included: finding Bill Gates' house (thank you Garmin), eating at Ivars, Dick's Drive-Inn, and "there's nothing like it" XXX Drive-in, visiting the former Elder Reil and Bulgarian wife in Kennewick, WA, seeing Boise for the first time, hanging with old roomie Eric Chambers, and eating at a Pizza Club favorite in Boise, the Flying Pie pizzaria.

square dancing = fun

at an activity this past weekend, there was square dancing. I had a bad attitude about it ahead of time. there was a professional square dance caller and all. In the end, I had a whole lot of fun. I really had a lot of fun.

Moral of the story:
if you have a chance to square dance, take it. and don't judge a book by it's cover. and it's the official dance of utah...

pizza club welcomed in wyoming

It was a beautiful evening for Pizza Club to visit Mountain Man Pizza and Bar in Evanston, WY. Sadly enough, it got "poo poo'd."
Thanks for visiting. It was fun to have guests.

cheer for me

Marian ran the Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, MN. Daniel, Andrew, and I joined her for the last 6 miles. I felt bad when everyone was cheering for me as if I had been running for a few hours. I tried to make an exhausted face.
I am now inspired to run a half marathon... Logan anyone?

lee fled to canada...?

I've been listening to "God Bless the USA" more than usual this week. The video is amazing, it reminds me of a classic church video.

Talking to someone, they mentioned that Lee Greenwood fled to Canada to avoid the draft... I was slightly concerned. Thanks to snopes.com, it's a completely false accusation.

somebody spiked the bulgar's food

Come on Bulgaria, grow up...

huh... the federation took action without waiting for the results of backup tests... Can you say guilty? I like this last paragraph:

"[The federation] also said it was 'theoretically possible' that the substance could have been ingested accidentally as part of a food supplement, or that the athletes' food could have been spiked."

Yep, sure.

who speaks barber language?

I got a haircut... it's nice, but without fail, they always cut too much or don't touch areas at all sometimes. Apparently I can't speak the barber lingo. How do you communicate with hair people?

Also, does everyone tip barbers out there? I have been, sometimes just a little bit... but this confirms that you're suppose to.

evanston findings

I have ventured to Evanston, WY and back (I'll be moving there to start my new job as a Kraft Sales Rep driving an Oscar Mayer Weinermobile, actually I'll be driving one of these. ). Here are my findings:
  • it's similar to rexburg but doesn't have any other towns around it and minus a college feel,
  • There are tons of deer, we saw 100+ (the picture is some we saw in a yard, at first I had thought they were whitetrash lawn ornaments... boy, was I wrong.)
  • there's a good mexican restaurante, Don Pedro's

  • and it takes 1 hour and seven minutes to drive from Evanston to Salt Lake.

801 trick

What is with Utah having two 801 area codes? Calling one 801 to the other 801 is long distance. Isn't that breaking some area code rule?!? The point of a different area code is to be a different area code.

However, this may all be changing shortly... click here

After years of disappointing trips to Sundance Film Festival and not spotting a star, I finally scored the big one. I held hands (for a split second) with Paris Hilton. "I truly hope people will learn from my mistake."

Don't lie, that's the gist. Marion Jones' medals out the window. What about those 5 olympic medals that go to different people now. How would that make you feel if you were one of the athletes that finished behind Marion Jones? For years you thought you were just a second-place athlete, after you gave it your all, then it turns out that you are. What about the athletes that did beat Marion? That's got to make them feel good about their abilities... unless they were doping too. They should be checked extra close. If they beat a doping lady, they've got to be doping a whole lot more. Wow, life lessons, think about it.

winter I-80

Never drive the Wyoming I-80 in the winter time. It is similar to Mt. Everest. If you need to make it, read this article before making the trek. I should have read it. I'm a survivor to tell the Wyoming I-80 story.
